Abstract:
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer after breast and the prostate, and the second leading cause of cancer death after lung. Considering these epidemiological data, CRC screening has become a public health issue based on colonoscopy, the reference test for detecting cancerous lesions and pre-cancerous colon wall. However, over the past fifteen years, colonoscopy has emerged and promises to be a technique more efficient for the exploration of the colon. When performed by trained teams, virtual colonoscopy has good detection rate of colonic polyps. This method requires precise technical execution and control of a semiology own justifying appropriate training of both radiologists and manipulators. Although its indications are still quite limited, its cost and minimally invasive present it as a valid alternative in the strategy for CRC screening.
